So, this Vita-Mix thing. Anyone have one, or know someone who does? Is it worth it? What is the just-as-good-but-way-cheaper alternative?
I’m in the market for something I hope can double as a blender and a food processor — I do have a li’l three-cup processor, but I find it’s hard to make/mix anything of much quantity or thickness in it (though it’s great for chopping things), and I have an immersion blender which is great for soups but so far I’ve been likewise unable to get the trick of easily mixing anything thick with it (like hummus or nut butter).
Maybe there is no such thing as an appliance that makes these things painlessly, but I like to dream.

Didn’t Katie basically propose marriage to a Vita-Mix at the county fair?

I was pretty sure that’s the one she ended up buying. But she hasn’t so much been reachable, so I thought I’d ask here in case anyone else has any experience/opinions/etc.

Vita-mix is love. omg.
If you can figure out how to use it correctly, that is. The man at the fair made all kinds of yummy things in it… tortilla soup, faux ice cream using frozen fruit and probably yogurt and stuff, yummy organic peanut buttery goodness.
Katie and I tried to make soup in it once. It did not turn out so well. Pretty sure she hasn’t used it since. It is, however, an extremely expensive machine.

I know it’s expensive, woe. If I decide to get one I’m going to get it refurbished, or otherwise try to get one cheaper on ebay or something.
What was wrong with the soup you made? Taste? Texture? Was it really difficult? Messy?

Sounds like I know where you can get a (slightly) used one… ;-)
