» ‘and one more for the road’
Well, everyone’s rocking it on the book titles, and it was lots of fun for me personally, so I’ve decided to resurrect the same-themed lyrics game, where you randomize your playlist and post lyrics from the first x songs, and everyone guesses the song.
This too will probably not take you long, but maybe it’ll last longer than five minutes. Also, no one but Steph’s allowed to guess the first one or there will likely be murder. ;) And no cheating!
ETA: I’ve decided I’ll put up links for the tough ones (and hence the ones people probably don’t know) in case anyone’s interested in hearing them. Except the one whose copyright I actually respect. *g*
ETA (again): I’ve added some more lines in on the songs I think people should be getting but aren’t. And I’ve added a few links for ones people haven’t guessed, ’cause they expire in 7 days, so. This is really my last update before I leave. Really. Y’all have ’till next week to figure the rest out, if you’re so inclined. :D Enjoy!
Rabbits, clinkety-clink
“Mr. Zebra,” Tori Amos (live)- He knew we were short on bread
And with nothing more said
He poured that apple berry wine Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you
“Yellow,” Coldplay- While I was coming up for air I heard somebody breathing
It was Juniebug praying harder than a heathen - And it’s a dangerous time for a heart on a wire
Shuttled from station to station noisily
Not knowing why
So I put my head on the ground
And the sky is a wheel
Spinning these days into things that I’ve lost And why do you sing Hallelujah
If it means nothing to you
“Delicate,” Damien Riceit can swallow swallow her whole star intact
call me ‘evil’ call me ‘tide is on your side’
“Suede,” Tori Amos- So I’ll just lie alone and wait for the dream
Where I’m not ugly and you’re lookin’ at me Moon spun on a pool cue
I was hanging on the line
Clothespin to my collar
“Tired, Sad, Bed, Bad,” Common RotationI’m driving home on empty streets
I think I put my shirt on backwards
“Are You Out There,” Dar Williams‘These seconds when I’m shaking
Leave me shuddering for days’
“Anna Begins,” Counting Crows- And the boy in the belfry
He’s crazy, he’s throwing himself
Down from the top of the tower
“In Liverpool,” Suzanne Vega - Well the world’s asleep in the crimson flush
Starin’ down the barrel of a gun Sunday all the lights of London
Shining
“Babylon,” David Gray- It’s never over
My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
It’s never over
All my riches for her smiles when I slept so soft against her I really do fear that I’m dying
I really do fear that I’m dead
I saw it in your eyes what I’m looking for
I saw it in your eyes what will make me live
“Tower of Learning,” Rufus Wainwright- And I’ve never found a way to say I love you
But if the chance came by, oh I, I would - We eat Chinese off our knees
And look for each other in the TV screen
“Cells,” The Servant - He offered me something to drink
But I told him I’d rather be dry than be mad
He said ‘The best kinda moonshine’s from the lunar city’ - Consider this a sign
This is a train in the night
And now it’s time for you to go
You know you’ve had a healthy life, boy

3′s Coldplay’s Yellow. I’ll never forget that one. :)
And 14′s David Gray’s Babylon.

1) Mr. Zebra, live
11) Anna Begins
You know, I think I’d know more of these if I ever bothered with liner notes.
And I’m leaving the only other one with a title I know for sure for someone else to guess. ~_^

8. Delicate – Damien Rice
10. Are You Out There – Dar Williams (Which will forever and ever remind me of Stephie, for which I am a very happy girl. :-D )

Hooo. Though Steph did have all afternoon and didn’t take advantage. *g*
Katie, I gave you ‘Delicate’ ’cause I’m pretty sure you meant 6 and not 8.
I wouldn’t be surprised if no one got the rest, with the exception of 17 (which Steph should get) and 19. And 4 if Brenda happens to read this.

::cough:: Right. I rock at numbers. ;-)

I know one of them, but I don’t know the name. I could cheat and look it up. It’s Common Rotation, though. At least… I think. Number 9.
I dunno. You quote it all the time!

::jumps:: come on number 19!!!

::brain spasm::
7) Suede. I was having trouble getting to the chorus. :D

Just knowing it’s ComRo is major points, since no one else (with the exception of Brenda and maybe Bryce) really knows the exist. And honestly, I’m about the worst person ever when it comes to song titles, and I could probably listen to the whole thing before figuring it out myself, so I’m totally marking that one off.
Man, this is the most fun I’ve had on my site…like, ever. It’s like a party!
…apparently I really like guessing/recognizing games.

::brings balloons and silly hats::
I feel really terrible missing Suede. It’s like I didn’t even read it.
And there’s another one I know.. but I can’t figure it out. Gonna kill me all through my meeting. ;-)

C’mooon Katie. I know at least two more on the list you should get. And it’s cracking me up a little, ’cause one of them was totally on your list too. *g*

OH.
::giggles:: So, I’m sitting here staring at your lyrics, listening to Rufus in the background.. and JUST as I read #16, I start singing along to Rufus and.. there it is.
Tower of Learning, silly me.

MURDER.
Ahem. #17 is “Iowa” by Dar Williams.
Dude, why did I not check this earlier? ::sigh::

Wow, no one got Everybody Went Low yet? Woo, go me. Not bad for being a day late.
